The Construction Sector Transparency Initiative (CoST) in Malawi has a new Champion. The new Champion is the country’s Vice President, Rt. Hon. Saulos Klaus Chilima. This follows an appointment made by the country’s president, His Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika in Janaury, 2015.
A CoST Champion offers leadership and support to the initiative in a country, giving high visibility, spreading knowledge of CoST at senior levels, encourage the media and other interest groups, and helping to open doors when necessary.
He/she is the national point of contact on CoST for high ranking colleagues and other key governance bodies (e.g. Parliament, the Presidency etc), foreign Ambassadors and ranking members of relevant regional and international organizations such as the African Union and the World Bank, as well as other Development Partners (DPs).
The champion represents his country at high-level international meetings, where diaries permit. Perhaps the most important contribution of the Champion will be to use his strategic position to help overcome challenges at key moments
